Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
It's so surreal to me to think I've been in Steamboat Springs, Colorado for 21 days now. Right now I'm interning at Oehme Graphics which is a fine print and publishing company. I love it here. I have learned so much already about the business side of art about keeping inventory, filing, and printing on different surfaces. I was honestly kind of scared to come out here how I was going to be, if I would fit in, how I would deal with being homesick, because honestly this is the farthest away I have been from my family ever and for the longest time. I am doing great tho. Its a step towards my future and my own independence. I love it, and the fact that I am back in a printshop creating things is amazing and I am surrounded by beautiful prints! I am so thankful. The type of work that is produced here is so expressive! I love it.
So back to when I first got it here talk about kind of an eventful day my flight was at 6 in the morning, and at 2 am that night I woke up to an ear splitting pain literally my ear was hurting so bad, After a rushed visit to the ER I was diagnosed with an ear infection. Let me tell you flying and ear infections DO NOT mix. lol but I was so happy I made it from GR to Ohare to Denver all in one piece, and made it on my shuttle to Steamboat Springs in top condition! So before I started my internship I stayed at this really cute and eclectic motel called the Rabbit Ears Motel. HELLO a pink sign with an adorable rabbit is just too cute. Needless to say I loved it there, and their continental breakfast was really good :)
After exploring town on my own for a couple days, my roommate the assistant here at Oehme Graphics and my roommate picked me up. Her name is Hollis, she seemed like a really nice girl and I knew we would it off and we would be friends. I also met Susan Oehme which is the master printer and owner of Oehme Graphics I love her spunk and enthusiasm. Let me tell you my mind was blown when I saw the studio and moved into my room.
Earlier today I got to ink, wipe, and print steel plates to finish up the amazing artist David Rowe's " Aggregate" print. Heres some process prints and and the final product. I really enjoy his work it is very mathematical and masculine looking. I really appreciate his style because it is so definitive, precise, and clean.
Here is another artists work that I got to help print about a week ago. The artist is named Jason Karolak he is an incredible artist. I really respect his use of color and that each stroke of his brush serves a purpose when making his plates.
Colorado is such a beautiful state. I simply love it out here, The mountains are incredible and so majestic. I have been trying to get outside as much as I can of course when its sunny, because it's been raining a lot. However I have been able to get a few good bike rides in! Always sunshine never rain! ( at least in my mind ) Here are some shots I took along the way on a bike ride i took.
Not only have I been out in nature I have been busy working on my own projects! I have been doing a little bit of everything.
A couple weeks ago Oehme Graphics held a workshop on drypoint. I was able to participate in the class and did a little drypoint piece of my own, I was really inspired by Rupaul.
